is (still) a dirty little secret for many. Your classic liberal has much
more in common with conservative views than they do the totalitarian
left.
This is one of the reasons why I object so often to the generic coining of the left as "liberal". Regressive postmodernism doesn't roll off the tongue as easily but is a much more accurate description.

an American political perspective, the leftists have reframed the
political axis through hyperbolic castigation of those who disagree with
any point of their intersectional craziness that classical liberals
that used to sit under their umbrella are now forced to find refugee
with free speech respecting conservatives on the American right. For
example, Stephen Crowder, Gavin Mcinnis, & Dave Rubin would be
American Democrats (on the left) 20 years ago. Overton window.
From a traditional Global political perspective where left-right axis is defined as majoritarian vs. individualism and up-down axis defined as authoritarian vs. anarchism, classical liberals have always been on the right. Liberals by definition are not Leftist. Classical liberalism is actually a down-right quadrant phenomenon almost by definition.
The media would like you just to accept the leftists version of the spectrum, which has no coherent definition other than what they hate all exists on the right.
It if comes to that, Trump's actual policies don't seem to me to be all that Republican as opposed to old-style centrist Democrat. Let alone compared to an old-style free markets, cut welfare spending, balance the budget kind of Republican.
